No doubt about it, classic autos have a giant fan base. But while auto insurance for antique autos only covers part of the vehicle's worth, it is better than having zilch, in case of theft or damage. These classic vehicles are a delight for many individuals, saving some of our automotive history in the process.

The worth of antique autos increases (not decreases) with each passing year. This is in direct contrast to newer vehicles, which reduce in value every year. It is rather complicated to accurately determine the market value of an antique car for insurance purposes.

To make things even more difficult, there are not all that many vintage vehicle insurers that are available either. These vintage "works of art" are sought-after by collectors who are at times willing to pay a good deal more than their actual value.

Standard Auto Insurance

In the situation of an ordinary car that isn't aged enough to be an antique (usually 20 years), the value of the car is calculated by taking the original cost then taking a depreciation for each year from that cost. Naturally, this presumes no major accidents, etc.

For antique cars, though, it's a delicate situation. The cost cannot be calculated using common ways. Particularly since the value of a antique car grows as time passes, not decreases.

Computing Antique Automobile Insurance 102

There are three main ways for computing the worth, insurance-wise, for an antique car.

The First Method: The price is jointly agreed upon between the owner and the insurance company. This tends to yield a higher insured amount than other two methods.

Method 2: The vehicle's price is calculated based on the current values for similar automobiles as listed in popular vintage automobile publications and current price indexes. In some situations, an third-party assessor might be contacted to help decide upon the worth of the automobile.

Method 3: A lesser-used way is to estimate the worth of the vehicle as the total of the actual vehicle cost plus the numerous enhancements and amount spent on repairs and such over the years. In other words, the monetary value of the automobile is the amount determined after deducting the depreciation with age from the initial price of the auto, then adding back in the restoration and upgrades.

Insuring Your Antique Vehicle

In summation, antique auto insurance providers have a set of rules they use to decide upon the insurable amount of the classic vehicle. As an example, the insurance providers many times insist that the vehicle being insured must not be used as a means of regular transportation. They may also insist that the vehicle be kept in a garage.

Additional requirements may include that the antique vehicle can't be used for racing, and that any other members of the household have proven access to other modes of transportation. And finally, the owner has to have a spick and span driving record, to boot.

Whether you call them antique autos, classic cars or vintage vehicles, they are a slice of automotive history...albeit a slice that has to be insured!

Is Your Vehicle Too Young to Be Vintage? Don't Worry, Here's FREE Insurance Information!

Your heart might thump hard at the thought of owning a classic, but if you drive an ordinary car, it needs insurance, too. Here's some free information on finding affordable auto insurance, wherever you may live.

The 57 Chevy 'Vette almost didn't make it to 1957 and almost did a crash and burn a few years earlier. Why did this car, which has won the hearts of many the world over, come within a hair's breath of meeting its demise?

The 1957 Chevrolet 'Vette almost didn't make it to 1957 and all but did a crash and burn a few years prior. Why did this auto, which has won the hearts of many the world over, come within a hair's breath of meeting its demise?

Chevrolet initially presented the two-seater Corvette (or 'Vette' as it's affectionately known) in 1953. It was the obsession and brainchild of the prominent automobile designer Harley Earl. Earl had been designing for Chevrolet since the late 1920's and at last managed to convince Chevy to manufacture a two seater sports car, to compete with the MGs, Alfas and other European autos that were being brought over to the American market by GIs returning from the war.

While the 53 Chevrolet Corvette was lauded for its killer good looks and terrific body, its engine performance was distinctly unexciting, unadventurous and somewhat frigid. The Ford Thunderbird additionally threatened the future life of the automobile that would ultimately go down in the chronicles of American auto history as 'the only true American sports car', by outselling the Corvette by 24 to 1. Ouch -- that had to hurt!

While the Thunderbird was looking great on the highways and byways of America, the Chevrolet Corvette (not yet the 1957 model) was still languishing in the automotive showrooms. It was at this point in time that GM considered killing the 'Vette, or in the words of an devotee 'murdering it'. Things were not looking good for the 'Vette.

Enter the V8 engine and Zora Arkus-Duntov. Zora, who somewhat incorrectly was designated ever after as the father of the Corvette, inspired the V8 design and spec for the 57 Corvette. The V8 engine is recognized with being the single most valuable alteration made to the Corvette up to that point.

Enough of the history. Given the new V8 engine the 57 'Vette went from so-so to strength in performance and was reborn as a serious sports car.

While the 57 Chevrolet is as synonymous with the American dream as Mom's home-made apple pie, the Americans do not have a monopoly on autos in thoughts. The Corvette began appearing in the dreams of car-lovers the world over and started attracting a global fan base. They were introduced to the 1957 Corvette by its plentiful guest TV appearances, where it often achieved its own listing in the credits! How is that for a comeback story?

The 1957 Chevrolet Corvette is coveted by automobile enthusiasts the world over. They are selling at car auctions for anywhere from $70,000 upwards, with apparently no lack of adoring buyers. The automobile world is now anxiously awaiting for the unveiling of the C7 Chevrolet Corvette anticipated to arrive sometime in 2010.

The 57 Chevy Bel Air has been called 'the most popular car in history', and given the actuality that this Chevrolet was in fact outsold by the Ford Thunderbird the year of its launch, that is high praise indeed. Called by many "the most popular car in history", the 57 Chevy Bel Aire was not the most-sold automobile in 1957. But it is the auto that won the hearts of many people, and still continues to win them over, even over 50 years afterward.

'Baby Cadillac' in style the 1957 Chevrolet was called in a remarkable Chevy advertisement as 'sweet, smooth and sassy'. The Chevy wasn't only part of the American dream, it was beamed into homes all over the world through many TV appearances, hence the 1957 Chevy Bel Aire became part of a bigger more global dream.

Was it the fins or was it the reality that the Chevy 57 became the car of choice for every high school teen around the world in the 60's that made these vehicles the collectible icons they have become today? The fact that there were just 47,566 Bel Airs produced, also contributes toward this Chevy's gold like preciousness.

Where did the Bel Air label come from? In earlier years the deluxe models of the Chevrolet hardtops were nicknamed Bel Air. This stuck and the manufacturer liked it so much they launched it as its own very separate series.

These Chevrolet Bel Aires were easily recognized The new tail fins and the addition of two and a half inches to the car's length gave them a longer, lower and wider appearance. A decrease from fifteen to fourteen inch tires and a great big new bumper grille made them one of the most eye-catching autos of the decade of the 50s.

The 1957 Bel Air was originally designed in1954 for a 1955 launch and was thought of at the time to be a welcome brash new look for the company. It was a good deal with a starting price of $1095, especially when you realize that a subscription to a first-class car magazine almost costs that at present. The most celebrated model with the V-8 engine in 57, contained a remarkable one horsepower per cubic inch (a first for a mass produced car at that time), giving this vehicle power as well as killer looks.

The sound pouring from the dual exhaust pipes of the 1957 Chevy Bel Aire became synonymous with the hum of a cat purring; cinching this was an advertisement placed in a prominent Chevrolet magazine at the time announcing to all and sundry that 'Chevy puts the purr back in performance'. What a wonderful slogan!

It's no small wonder that the 1957 Chevy Bel Air went on to become one of the most collected post war cars in history.

The best Corvette ever is the 1967 Corvette which is a Sting Ray refined to the limit. The changes were again modest and it is the cleanest Sting Ray. The three larger fender vents were replaced by five smaller vents, a less chunky appearance from the flat finish rockers and ribbing. The single backup light that was mounted above the license plate is new and unique.

The previous model's old fashioned wheel covers were replaced with slotted six inch Rally wheels with chrome beauty rings and lug nuts concealed behind small chrome caps. Revised upholstery and the handbrake moved from beneath the dash to between the seats are a few of the interior alterations made. One feature, the optional hardtop is offered with a black vinyl cover.

The Power trains were not changed much. The two small-block V-8s returned, as did the 390-bhp big-block (hulking beneath a redesigned hood scoop). But the top two 427s now developed 400 and 435 bhp with a switch to triple two-barrel carburetors. As before, they differed in compression ratios -- 10.25:1 and 11.0:1, respectively -- and the solid lifters and transistorized ignition that went on the 425-bhp unit. The latter, RPO L71, was also available with special aluminum heads (instead of cast iron) and larger-diameter exhaust valves as RPO L89, though with the same grossly understated horsepower.

The 1967 ultimate Corvette engine was coded L88. This was an even wider L89 which was close to a pure racing engine that Chevy made. The Corvette was equipped with lightweight heads, bigger ports, hotter cam, aluminum radiator, small diameter flywheel, stratospheric 12.5:1 compression and a single huge Holly four barrel carburetor. The result was no less than 560 bhp, again at 6400 rpm.

The problem the car had was you had to use 103 octane racing fuel that was only available at a few service stations. For sure, this was not an engine for the average person. There were certain options Chevy did when they ordered the L88 such as the positraction, the transistorized ignition, heavy duty suspension, power brakes and RPO C48. In order to discourage this car from being used on the street, these deleted the normal radio and heater to cut down on the weight.

Car buyers recently have been able to come across a great deal more old GMC pickup trucks for sale than ever before. Depending on how you define "old", or as some people call "classic" trucks, an older GMC pickup truck is tough to beat.

When you are looking for a used classic pickup, typically the optimum place to go is to your local newspaper classifieds. The truth is that this is where you can uncover the vehicles that are really handy to you, but this is fast becoming an outdated method for discovering used trucks being sold. Nowadays, the internet is the easiest method to get what you want in your quest to find even local used vehicles for sale.

Of course, I graciously advise my own classic car classifieds site, Buy Old Cars.com, but there are many other places on the Internet to find that special classic you have been hunting for. Amongst the different internet car ads sites include eBay motors, Craig's list, and a complete host of alternative classic automobile sites all over the web.

When searching for a classic truck on the Web, just be cognizant of the fact that not everything is factual on the Internet. You need to do your research. Get a sense for the people who are saying they are selling a particular car. By no means send money to ship a car or truck without looking at it. Go see the truck in person. Just be smart.

People who prefer a GMC truck, are people that require a high quality of vehicle to ride around in. They really want excellence in their truck.

An old classic GMC truck is no different in terms of quality. People who buy those classic trucks are not simply swayed by other trucks out there. From the front fender to the back taillights, the quality is there! Buy a classic GMC truck through the web!

Find a 1971 GMC Truck For Sale online at Buy Old Cars.com Old Cars Classifieds

It's true that there are many great cars out there in the world today, but the Cadillac (no matter which model you buy), the Mustang, and the Corvette are some of the most iconic and widely-recognized, being seen as great choices. For many years that have stayed on the forefront of popularity, and that means that they have a lot to offer to people who like all kinds of different cars for different reasons. There are some who don't see why these cars are so very popular but most individuals realize the impact these cars have had on the driving public throughout history and how it appears that they will remain strong well into the future.

There is a lot of prestige when it comes to owning a Cadillac, and business owners and others who feel as though they have 'made it' often buy them. Cadillacs are beautiful and popular, and they are often used for limousine production, as well, because the Cadillac name has a particular standard attached to it. The standard that most people think of with this car is not only quality but also luxury, and those people who have achieved some degree of success often want to show that to the world by purchasing a Cadillac.

Cadillac doesn't only make big, luxury cars, though, because they have some smaller, sportier choices - and they even made a standard four-door car with a manual transmission called the 'Cimarron' many years ago. Now the Cadillac brand has come very far, and the company is making SUVs and sportier models as well as what most people think of as the 'standard' Cadillac, and even the company's bigger, four-door luxury models have been redesigned. This has prompted some people who remember the Cadillacs of old to be upset by the way that they look now, because 'they don't look like Cadillacs anymore,' but most people love the redesigned and sleeker, more modern look.

Not everyone wants a Cadillac, though, and if it's not the car for you, it might be better to look for something sportier such as a Corvette or a Mustang if you're looking for an unforgettable car. For years, the Ford lineup has included the Mustang, and over the years the company has clearly been interested in improving that car to give its customers everything that they want and need in the cars that they purchase. Once Chevy discontinued its Camaro the Mustang became basically the only affordable sports car out there, because all of the other options available to the public cost quite a bit more, so Ford had the chance to completely entrench the Mustang into driving society even more than had already been done - and the company took advantage of that.

People who like two-seater cars and have a little bit more money to spend might find themselves looking for a Corvette so that they can get the horsepower and the speed and handling that they want. Just like the Mustang, the Corvette doesn't look the same as it did years ago, but it hasn't forgotten what it used to look like and where it came from, either. The stylish, sleek, and sophisticated exterior of the Corvette has stayed, and the car has gotten great features to make it more safe, more comfortable, and better handling, among other improvements.

There are so many cars out there that have a lot going for them, and the Mustang, the Corvette, and most of the Cadillac models that are out there today are clearly among that group so people can get what they need in transportation, whether that's an SUV, a sports car, or anything in between. These three cars won't be fading away like some of those that have gone away in the past because they couldn't keep up with changing consumer trends. The past incarnations of these cars are remembered fondly and the current ones are well-liked.

Part of the reason that the Mustang, the Corvette, and the various models of Cadillac have remained so popular is because the companies that make them have been aware of the need to make them conform to what people want while still staying different enough to hold attention. It's the mark of any good car maker to keep people interested while also ensuring that basic needs and wants are met, like comfort, safety, and ease of driving. Cars that can offer all of that and that appeal to the public will last for a very long time and remain popular, just as these three have done for the many years that they've been around and the many years that they'll likely be here in the future.

One of the most popular muscle cars to have come out of the assembly lines of America’s car factories is the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. This particular car contains many features that people consider to be a central part of a muscle car such as a powerful engine and street race ready looks. For this reason, Chevrolet Camaro Restoration has became extremely popular in all year model cars.
The 1969 Chevy Camaro is one of the most easily recognized models of muscle car. During the muscle car era, Chevrolet was able to hit exactly the right note when they created the 1969 Chevy Camaro. Designed to be more aggressive looking and available with higher power than the earlier 1967 and 1968 models of the Chevrolet Camaro, the 1969 model of the Chevrolet Camaro blew away the competition. The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro features a design that was only used in the 1969 model year. This made the Chevy Camaro a very rare muscle car which, of course made it very popular for muscle car enthusiasts who restore classic muscle cars. Performance wise, the Chevrolet Camaro was also very fast on the road and featured powerful engines. Straight out of the factory, 1969 Chevrolet Camaro cars performed quite well. However, performance wise, there were still a few muscle car competitors that performed better than the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro but enthusiasts of the car soon installed better engines and other parts into the car and made the car even more powerful than it already was.
1969 Chevrolet Camaro restoration work is one of the more popular restoration work being done by classic muscle car enthusiasts. The unique design of the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro has made it a very popular car for restoration. Because of 1969 Chevrolet Camaro restoration, many classic car shops sell parts for the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. This makes the work of 1969 Chevrolet Camaro restoration that much easier. The best place to look for parts for 1969 Chevrolet Camaro restoration is through the internet. A large number of 1969 Chevrolet Camaro restoration parts can be found online. Online shops that offer 1969 Chevrolet Camaro restoration parts also offer lower prices in comparison to regular shops.

The 1967 Camaro is one of the greatest muscle cars ever designed. I consider it a work of art, an outstanding example of automobile engineering, and as American as apple pie! It set a standard that cars of today can’t match.
The Camaro is like a good looking woman, it is shaped just right. The long hood and short deck styling makes the car seem like it is moving fast even when the car is sitting still. You can almost imagine it tearing down the road even when at rest. Muscle car power is at its maximum.
In 1966, Chevrolet countered the Ford Mustang with its version of its own muscle car. In the month of September 1966, the 67 Camaro was released to the world. The new “pony car” was a phenomenal hit. Even now, Camaros are still in production.
When it was introduced, the 67 Camaro was the only first generation Camaro to not have the RPO-Z28 Special Performance Package and the 396-cid displacement engine for SS models. Other distinquishing features include: lack of side marker lights, no front quarter windows, VIN tag mounted in door hinge pillar, center console, and had side-vent windows.
Camaros have held their own in value over the years, and are very popular with classic car collectors. Even in poor condition, a 67 Camaro is often priced at about $8,000. In fact, a Z28 in excellent condition is bringing close to $60,000 today. It is a classic car that really holds its value.
The 1967 Camaro was built on brand new rear-wheel drive GM F-body platform. The body was available as a 2-door, coupe, 2 2 seating, or a convertible.
The 67 Camaros came factory in a choice of the inline-6 and the 302, 350, 396 engines or the powerful 396 V8. Let me tell you, the 396 motor can burn tires like nobody’s business. It is a big boy’s toy, thats for sure. In the hands of teenage boy, it will peel off 15 foot black rubber marks regularly from sitting still. It is a hoss.
The 67 Camaro is a treat to drive. It not only looks like a real man’s car, but it is also a great ride. With great handling and performance, this classic muscle car is a thrill to own. If you decide to buy one, you will be glad you did.
