1969 Pontiac Trans Am: Most Popular Trans Am Ever!

Celebrated its 30 years last 1999, the 1969 Pontiac Trans Am was the most well-known model made by General Motors. This model started in the market as a street car then since it is better on the race track than on the streets, the race car model gained more popularity. With satisfactory features, it is worth the price.

Like all the Trans Am models, the 1969 Pontiac Trans Am automobiles were painted with polar white and had two stripes of brilliant blue in color. The number of cars that were manufactured with automatic transmission was only 144. The 1969 Pontiac Trans Am was first thought of as a racing package under the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA).

The WS4 option package was the Trans Am that came out in the middle of 1969 and was also the pioneer. With heavy duty suspensions, this car cannot be put at the bottom of any collectors list because of its rareness. Adding to the positive attributes of 1969 Pontiac Trans Am are the stabilizer bars at the car’s front and rear, power steering wheel that is of variable ratio and is three-spone and made of wood-grain, and the model’s remarkable hood, too, was an advantage in terms of style.

The most famous 1969 Pontiac Trans Am had a Ram Air III engine with four-speed. Engine wise, the care was better than cars manufactured by Chevrolet’s and Ford’s. The latter two had only 302 cubic-inch engine capacity while the Ram Air installed in 1969 Pontiac Trans Am had a capacity of 400 cubic-inch. Additionally, the Ram Air Iv engine came as an option and just 50 of the cars with this engine were sold. Along with its amazing machinery is a floor sheet that was designed for heavy duty use, a special interior design, and a wing at the backside of the vehicle.

The 1969 Pontiac Trans Am still remains above the standards even with its minimal drawback. Among the rare Pontiac cars, this is the most distinguished not just because of its style but also for its overall performance on the road.

The Sleek and Mean 1970 Pontiac Trans Am

The Pontiac’s outstanding series of cars always gain enormous attention. The 1970 Pontiac Trans Am is one of the best choice among the vintage cars. And why do owners of this car say it is sleek and mean? Just read on.

Despite the fact that it is heavier than the 1969 model, 1970 Pontiac Trans Am it possesses a sleek and mean engine. The combination of the attributes in the previous car model that car collectors liked best and its improved machinery puts it at a higher plane than its predecessor. Some loudly claimed that this automobile is the best among the previously launched vehicle models from Pontiac. It really all depends on personal choice.

Superb capabilities and features were owned by the 1970 Pontiac Trans Am. This is more than just a mode of travel. The polar white color of the shiny body creates an eye-catching trademark of the Pontiac branded cars.  All the 1970 Pontiac Trans Am have 11-inch disk brakes installed in front of the car, what is positioned behind it are drums measuring 9.5 inches. Additionally, heavy duty coils are properly designed together with its near leaf springs.

Getting the feel of the smooth, comfortable and neat interior, lovers of Pontiacs can tell no difference from the way it was; just the way they adore the “roomy and airy” interior. An additional element would be the AM/FM radio inside the car. At the time of its release, AM/FM radios are the trendy characteristic of an automobile. Another quality of the 1970 Pontiac Trans Am is the plastic holders for the buckles. Separate buckles for the lap and shoulders of this car model give you an idea how organized this vehicle is.

The 1970 Pontiac Trans Am’s engine can hold up to 400 cubic-inch, and it is by far the most potent among the manufactured four-wheeled vehicles by General Motors. The highlight of the 1970 Pontiac Trans Am is, undeniably, its engine matched with its 60-pound relief spring. This relief spring ensures that every minute part of the machine is cooled and lubricated in the shortest time possible. Further details of this vehicle are its 4-bolt mains, Arma steel crank, efficient cast rods and pistons.

The 1970 Pontiac Trans Am was advertised as “1/4 point less” as compared to the 1969 release.  Looking at the automobile’s elements, you sure can say this one is sleek, and the engine is mean!

The 1957 Chevy Bel Air, it is rare today to see stylish car like that drive by today. The 1950s were the pinnacle for American car makers. Companies like Oldsmobile, GM, Ford, Chrysler, and others were producing now-classic cars such as the Ford Thunderbird, the Cadillac Series 62,  the Dodge Royal Lancer, and of course, the 1957 Chevy Bel Air. These cars had it all... style, power, comfort, but no car company had better cars in the 1950s then Chevy, especially the 1957 Chevy Bel Air. The 1957 Chevy Bel Air came in a number of varieties and configurations. Some of the styles the 1957 Chevy Bel Air came in are two door or four door. You could get the 1957 Chevy Bel Air as a convertible as well. Please read on for more details.

The Chevy Bel Air was only made by GM from 1950 to 1975. the Chevy Bel Air become its own series in the mid 1950s growing out of Chevy's Deluxe Styleline. It is interesting to note that Chevy continued to produce the Bel Air for Canada until 1981. The 1957 Chevy Bel Air is easily recognizable. It is amongst the most recognizable American cars. Classic Car collectors are always searching for a well maintained 1957 Chevy Bel Air. That has driven the price for this car up. 1957 Chevy Bel Air stood apart from its Ford and Chrysler competitors by using crisper and cleaner styling.

1957 Chevy, one of the most collected cars in GM history

1957 Chevy

The 1950s were a great time for America. We were just coming off our Allied victory in World War 2. We had an economic boom stemming from our war time innovations. The late 1940s and 1950s was also the time of the baby boomers. In addition, the 1950s was known for the awesome cars made during this decade and there were a lot of them. There was the Ford Thunderbird, Ford Sunliner, Cadillac Series 62, Lincoln Premiere, Edsel Corsair and many others. None of them could compare with the 1957 Chevrolet. The 1957 Chevy is, simply put, an icon.

The classic 1957 Chevy came in a number of different varieties. There was a spectrum of options depending on which trim level the 1957 Chevy had. On the low end of the range was the 150 series of the 1957 Chevy. The mid-range trim level for this sweet car was the 210 series. The top of the line trim level was the Bel Air. In addition, you could get an upscale 1957 Chevy 210 two-door sedan. This was called the Delray. There were also two trim levels that are very rare but a limited number of 1957 Chevy cars had them. These trims were the Nomad, a two-door station wagon, and the "El Morocco." The "El Morocco" was a custom built 1957 Chevy. It was hand built to look like the Cadillac's of that time.

The first aspect of the 1957 Chevy that needs to be discussed is the engine. The 1957 Chevy had essentially the same engine as the 1955 model. It was a small-block V8. This was the first time that Chevy made a V8 available in one of its cars since 1918. There were also a number of body stylings that made the 1957 Chevy distinct and memorable. It stood out from the 1956 and 1955 model because the 1957 Chevy had fourteen-inch wheels instead of fifteen-inch wheels, there was a new dashboard made, the windshield was reshaped, the air ducts were moved to the headlight pods, and a new wide grille was installed. The famous 1957 Chevy tailfins were made to replicate the wide look of the front of the car. The 1957 Chevy was a real quality car. The Bel Air trim level even had elements rendered in gold.

When GM conceived the 1957 Chevy they expected it to be a hit that would outsell all competing cars. That was not the case. Ford far outsold the 1957 Chevy. It was the first time that Ford outsold GM since the mid-1930s. On the other hand, the 1957 Chevy is far more popular  than any Ford model as a collector's car. Since the 1957 Chevy was relatively light weight for cars of that time and was pretty simple mechanically, people customized and built dragsters out of them. Nowadays, you could find a well taken care of and carefully restored 1957 Chevy selling for more than $100,000.

Do you think the 1975 Pontiac Trans Am was a downgrade?

From the 1973 and 1974 models, changes were made by general motors and it paved the way for the 1975 Pontiac Trans Am availability in the market. Standardization of the engines for all brands affected this car’s quality and attributes.  New installations and designs were applied to the automobile.

In the 1975 Pontiac Trans Am automobile, rear windows placed at an angle of 90 degrees. Enough to increase driver’s the field of view. And made the interior’s atmosphere quite pleasant than the previous design where the rear windows were very small. Adding to the comfort is the seat coverings which were all made from vinyl cloth. No parts were covered with cloth like their usual design. Trims in the color burgundy added to its classy design. During the 70’s, the tape player was a must have and the 1975 Pontiac Trans Am has it as an additional feature.

The 1975 Pontiac Trans Am base power is only designed to produce at a maximum of 185 horsepower. The speedometer, as well, was lowered due to speed limits 100 miles per hour instead of the 160 miles per hour installed in the previous Pontiac cars. The 1975 Pontiac Trans Am had only half the capacity of the usual engine used in Pontiac automobiles manufactured by General Motors. As a result, these changes posed a problem in the car’s sales.

In between the selling season, a new engine was released, the 455 H.O. V8 engine, which slightly improved the car’s engine capability. They installed metallic pads in the new 1975 Pontiac Trans Am version. Minus the noise and increased pedal effort, the breaking performance was put to a higher level and the WX coding was particular of the latest 1975 Pontiac Trans Am WITH 455 engine. The 1975 Pontiac Trans Am had a new cylinder which was a 5C with a measurement of 2.11inches intake and exhaust valves of 1.66 inches. These exhaust valves is just right for the single exhaust system because of its small size.

With the innovations done, it has not greatly improved the 1975 Pontiac Trans Am design as compared to the 1973 SD 455. The 1975 Trans Am had a slower terminal speed of 88.8 miles per hour even with the new 455 engine. It was a big difference to the 1973’s 104 miles per hour. Nonetheless, this automobile still had what it takes to be labeled a luxury car.

2009 Chrysler 300C SRT-8 Hemi

Powered by an all-new 6.1-liter Hemi(R) V8 engine that delivers 425 horsepower, the 2009 Chrysler 300C SRT8 builds momentum for Hemi and the Chrysler 300C and is the latest addition to the Chrysler group's Street and Racing Technology (SRT) performance vehicle lineup.

Powertrain

The 425-horsepower, normally aspirated 6.1-liter HEMI is the highest specific-output V-8 engine ever offered by the Chrysler Group. Although the Chrysler HEMI was born in the 1950s and entered into legend in the 1960s and '70s, today's version took much of its inspiration from the original - particularly the namesake hemispherical combustion chambers that provide power and efficiency.

The SRT powertrain engineers who developed the Chrysler 300C SRT-8's engine achieved more horsepower by adding more cubic inches, increasing the compression ratio, redesigning the cylinder head intake and exhaust systems for increased flow, and increasing engine speed. Compression ratio was also increased to 10.3:1 from 9.6:1, unleashing more energy in the combustion process.

Engine breathing was increased with new high-flow cylinder heads, a specially designed intake manifold, and exhaust headers with individual tubes encased in a stainless steel shell, all unique to the 2009 Chrysler 300C SRT-8's 6.1-liter HEMI engine. Larger diameter valves and reshaped cylinder ports in the heads allow for maximized air flow. The intake manifold was designed with larger diameter runners for higher-speed tuning. Exhaust is routed through a larger-diameter (2.75-inch vs. 2.5-inch) exhaust system with 3.5-inch chrome tips.

Performance-oriented camshaft profiles were developed to balance total vehicle requirements, simultaneously allowing more air in and out of cylinders. This increases performance and manages a higher engine speed, which is another method to increase horsepower. SRT engineers increased the HEMI's peak engine speed nearly 15 percent, to 6,200 revolutions power minute (rpm) from 5,400 rpm. Intake and exhaust valve stems are hollow, and the exhaust valve stems are filled with sodium to help dissipate heat more efficiently.

The high-performance 6.1-liter HEMI is further strengthened with a host of redesigned components, including a reinforced engine block with increased coolant flow, forged steel crankshaft, high-strength powdered-metal connecting rods, floating-pin pistons (cooled by oil squirters), and an oil pan modified for reduced oil foaming.

The 6.1-liter HEMI's power is channeled through an A580 five-speed automatic transmission with specially calibrated AutoStick driver-selectable range control, which offers fully automatic or manual shifting selection. A heavy-duty four-flange prop shaft sends the torque from the transmission to an upgraded differential and axles.

Ride and Handling

Chassis setup for the Chrysler 300C SRT-8 is aimed at all-around performance with a number of enhancements, including tuned dampers, specially tailored spring rates and suspension bushings and larger-diameter anti-sway bars. New front and rear suspension knuckles contribute to a ride height lowered one-half inch from the Chrysler 300C. And, the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) has been specially tuned for the SRT-8's performance handling characteristics.

The Chrysler 300C SRT-8 connects with the road via a new wheel and tire assembly consisting of 20-inch forged aluminum wheels shod with high-performance Goodyear F1 three-season tires (four-season tires are an available option) with asymmetrical tread.

All four wheels feature stout performance calipers developed by Brembo and equipped with four pistons. Up front, the Chrysler 300C SRT-8 has 360 x 32mm vented rotors, with 350 x 26mm vented rotors in the rear.

Design

Befitting its high-performance character, the new 2009 Chrysler 300C SRT-8 recieves new exterior styling. Modified front and rear fascias help direct air flow, particularly through unique ducts that help cool the brakes. In addition, a specially designed rear deck spoiler, while refined in appearance, is also functional - increasing rear downforce by 39 percent.

Other unique touches to the Chrysler 300C SRT-8's exterior include body-color front and rear bumper inserts, body-color grille insert with chrome collar, body-color mirrors and door handles, and unique SRT badging.

Two exterior colors are available: Bright Silver and Brilliant Black.

Performance

Preliminary performance targets for the all-new 2009 Chrysler 300C SRT8 are 0-60 mph in the low five-second range and a quarter mile time in the high 13-second range. SRT has developed seven vehicles, each of which is the performance leader in its class. The vehicles include the Dodge Viper SRT10, Dodge SRT4, Dodge Ram SRT10, Dodge Ram SRT10 Quad Cab and Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 Coupe and Roadster, and now the all-new Chrysler 300C SRT8. Chrysler 300C SRT8 has been in Chrysler dealer showrooms since the spring of 2005.

2009 Dodge Viper SRT-10

The new 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10 boasts more of what performance aficionados crave: kick-in-the-pants, throw-back-in-the-seat power, combined with benchmark braking, world-class ride and handling, a race-inspired interior and bold exterior styling. While every SRT vehicle offers balanced, overall performance, the heart and soul of the new 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10 is its standout powertrain. For 2009, SRT ups the ante with a new, 8.4-liter aluminum V-10 engine that produces an astounding 600 horsepower and 560 lb.-ft. of torque. The new 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10 will arrive in Dodge showrooms in North America this summer with a new level of customization options, including five new exterior colors, four new interior color combinations and a new wheel design.

When SRT powertrain engineers set out to get more venom from the 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10’s powerplant, their objectives included not only increasing performance, but also complying with stringent regulatory requirements, such as federal Tier 2, Bin 5 and California’s Low Emissions Vehicle (LEV) 2 mandates. Working with specialists from McLaren Performance Technologies and Ricardo, Inc., SRT engineers began by following the racer’s basic formula for more power: bigger displacement, more efficient breathing and higher engine speed. The new Dodge Viper SRT10’s deep-skirted V-10 aluminum engine block was revised for a 1-millimeter larger bore, raising the displacement to 8.4 liters from 8.3 liters. With strengthened bulkheads and improved water jackets for better cooling, the block includes pressed-in iron cylinder liners and cross-bolted main bearing caps for strength and durability.

The Viper SRT10’s 8.4-liter engine breathes through new cylinder heads equipped with Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC)-shaped combustion chambers, larger valves and Variable Valve Timing (VVT). VVT electronically adjusts when the exhaust valves are open and closed according to engine speed and load, allowing the engine to ''breathe'' cleaner and more efficiently. The 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10 V-10’s two-piece intake manifold combines a cast aluminum lower with smooth runners for better air flow, bolted to a die-cast aluminum upper plenum. A revised air-cleaner box with a low-restriction filter sends air through a dual electronic throttle control into the intake module. The air-fuel mixture in the cylinders is ignited by platinum-tip spark plugs fired by new individual plug coils mounted on the cylinder-head covers.

Within the cylinders, pistons are equipped with larger-diameter floating pins with bronze bushings for high-load capability. Forged powder-metal connecting rods are secured with aircraft-quality fasteners for increased fatigue strength. Engine lubrication is managed by a larger oil pump and a swinging oil pickup adapted from Viper competition engines, to improve oil pressure in high-rpm and hard-cornering conditions. Spent gases exit through tubular air-gap headers, which not only improve exhaust flow, but also ensure quick catalyst light-off for improved emission control. The headers’ stamped stainless-steel outer shell acts as a thermal heat shield for the individual stainless-steel runners that contribute to better flow separation and exhaust tuning. SRT engineers didn’t stop there. Upgrades were developed to handle the 8.4-liter V-10’s increased horsepower and torque levels, while improving traction, driveability – and durability.

The 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10’s V-10 channels its power through a new, smaller-diameter, twin-disc clutch (a change from the previous larger-diameter, single-disc setup). The new clutch reduces rotating inertia by 18 percent, resulting in reduced clutch-pedal effort and improved engagement feel. The transmission is the latest evolution of the Tremec T56 six-speed manual, known as the TR6060. It features 10 percent wider gears for higher torque capacity and a new synchronizer package. A new shifter system results in reduced shifter travel. Club racers will applaud a new provision for adding an external transmission cooler.

Stopping power is another key attribute of the Dodge Viper SRT10 formula, with 14-inch brake rotors gripped by Brembo 44/40 dual opposing piston calipers in the front and Brembo 42/38 dual opposing calipers in the rear. An anti-lock braking system (ABS) prevents lockup during hard braking. This system results in a benchmark braking performance of 60-to-0 mph in less than 100 feet.

The ride and handling of the 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10 is defined by a race-bred, fully independent, four-wheel suspension featuring lightweight, high-performance aluminum control arms and knuckles, damped by lightweight coil-over shock absorbers. Where the power goes right to the road, SRT engineers retained the tried-and-true Dana M44-4 rear axle and outfitted it with a new GKN Visco-Lok speed-sensing limited-slip differential for improved traction. The Dodge Viper SRT10 rides on polished, forged aluminum, 18 x 10-inch front and 19 x 13-inch rear wheels now available in three styles: the five-spoke, the H-spoke and the all-new Razor wheel with five U-shaped spokes. The wheels are clad in Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires. The four-groove tread-design tires provide maximum grip, reduced road noise and superior handling in both wet and dry conditions.

The 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10 remains available in two body styles – Roadster and Coupe. Both feature a dramatic new hood with a larger, more efficient hood scoop for air induction and larger, functional hood louvers to facilitate a greater cooling effect for the more powerful 8.4-liter, 600-horsepower V-10 engine underneath. Eight exterior colors will be introduced throughout the model year – five of which are all-new including Venom Red, Snakeskin Green, Viper Violet, Viper Orange and Bright Blue. Racing stripes continue to be an option with six dual painted stripe colors available: white, black, silver, graphite, blue and red. Several exterior differences exist between the 2009 Dodge Viper SRT10 Roadster and Coupe. In fact, the only body panels they share are front fascia and fenders, hood and doors. However, all of the iconic Viper SRT10 design cues have been maintained including the signature crosshair grille, deep-cut side scallops, swept-back fenders and lowered hood lines.

The Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe’s hard top with its ''double bubble'' styling makes it even more torsionally stiff than the Roadster. The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe offers increased downforce and high-speed stability with its sloping roofline and deck-lid spoiler. Plus, the Dodge Viper SRT10 Coupe has an additional 6.25 cubic feet of trunk space than the Viper SRT10 Roadster, for a total of 14.65 cubic feet. The roof and headliner structure offer more room to accommodate a safety cage, while maintaining as much headroom as possible.

The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 Roadster and Coupe cockpit retains its characteristic red push-button starter and performance-oriented, highly functional instrument panel with center-mounted tachometer and 220-mph speedometer. Five interior colors will be available in 2008: black, and four new color combinations in black/red, black/blue, black/slate or black/natural tan. A choice of bezel finishes on the center instrument panel and console adds to the increased level of customization.
